Touch 101
You are invited to come and explore the wonderful world of massage and mindful touch. This six-hour workshop was developed to teach the principles of conscious touch and how to apply those principles through many massage techniques. At Touch 101 you will learn how to massage the back, neck, shoulders, arm, legs, hands and feet. You will also have the opportunity to work at professional massage tables and to learn chair massage and floor mat work. We will also explore and experience the power of energy work using a technique of hands-on work at the energy centers of the body. Bring a friend, or meet a new one! This workshop is not just for couples but for everyone seeking a greater connection through touch.

IPSB Teacher Training Coming Summer 2010
Have you thought about being an instructor here at IPSB?
Do you love being in the IPSB classroom helping teachers and supporting students’ learning?
Are you naturally drawn to share your knowledge and help others?
IPSB’s Teacher Training program begins in Summer Quarter with a 40-hour class that will be offered in the evenings and on the weekends. Applications to the Teacher Training program are being accepted March 1st to April 30th and must include two written IPSB instructor recommendations. Applicants will be interviewed the evening of May 21st by a panel and must demonstrate basic massage skills and modeling for Circulatory massage, Sensory Repatterning and Deep Tissue. Not all applicants are accepted into the program, and there are limited students accepted into the program each year. IPSB does not discriminate because of race, color, sex, religion, age, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or Vietnam Era Veteran status.
If accepted into the program, students must complete a 40-hour course and participate in several “on-the-job” training opportunities by being an Aide in an Essentials class, Assisting in Practice Session and providing Community service to IPSB (like demonstrations at Open House). This process may be completed in as little as one quarter but must be completed within one year. In addition, there are also nine hours of class time (three 3-hour classes) during the six months following the main class, which you will attend as a follow-up.
Once the Teacher Training program is completed, the trainee may be eligible for hire at IPSB as a paid Aide or Assistant, and may gradually work their way up to teaching Primary. In order to be a Primary instructor at IPSB, the individual must have at least an Associate degree and two years working in the massage field (both of which may be obtained concurrently while taking the Teacher Training program). Completing Teacher Training is not a guarantee of a paid teaching position with IPSB.
The program is coordinated by Shari Grayson, and taught by many different talented IPSB faculty. Students will learn the “why” and “how” of IPSB’s teaching methods and will get a “behind-the-scenes” look at how to prepare a lecture and structure a variety of classroom experiences. The Essentials of Massage and Bodywork course is used as the framework for learning how to teach at IPSB, so all the basics covered in that class will be reviewed from the perspective of being an Aide in the classroom and learning to support student learning, offer feedback and be an exceptional role model. Students will be encouraged to “find-their-voice” and prepare and give a presentation of material as their final evaluation. This is a long-term commitment and not just a 40-hour classroom experience. The Teacher Training program consists of 150 hours and 7.25 credits.
Class meets: Mon/Wed/Fri, June 28 – July 23rd from 6-9p and Sunday
July 25th from 9a-4:30p. No class on July 5th. Tuition: $350

A sad farewell…
I wanted to let you all know that Eric Leventhal has informed us that he will be moving out of the San Diego area, and therefore will be leaving his position here at IPSB as Admissions Advisor. He has graciously given us advanced notice of his leaving and his last day will be Thursday, February 25th. Please join me in wishing him well on his future endeavors as he takes the message and spirit of IPSB with him on his journey. He has been a valuable member of the staff and IPSB community and will be missed! In light of this news, we are now looking to hire a new Admissions Advisor. If you or anyone you know of might be interested in the position, please come and see me or submit a resume to Cindy Nauta. The position listing is now posted on the IPSB website. Thank you all for your support and positive intentions for IPSB as we move through this transition.
Teacher/Assistant/Student of the Year Awards
On December 9th at the IPSB Annual Holiday Party, the Teacher and Assistant of the Year were announced. We are very pleased and honored to share that Skip Kanester was voted Teacher of the Year. An example of the wonderful comments submitted by faculty and staff include “Skip is more than just a teacher of massage. He brings to the classroom ways to empower his students to become better at promoting themselves. Being in his class has made me more confident in trusting what I have to offer.”
We are equally pleased to share that Cara Lockwood was voted Assistant of the Year. Some of the supportive comments by students and faculty include “Cara is an incredible assistance. She is always present, organized and holds the energy of the classroom with great skill and dedication to the students and their learning.”
On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff, IPSB congratulates Skip and Cara for being voted 2009 Teacher/Assistant Teacher of the Year – one of the most prestigious IPSB honors program recognizing excellence in teaching. IPSB also congratulates Janis Johnson, Chris Okuma, Calvin Iona, and Tammy Morgan for their outstanding work in the classroom that gave them the second and third most votes.
This year, IPSB also announced a Student of the Year who demonstrated some of the most important goals of IPSB, including assisting others in times of change and building a financially successful business based on heart-centered beliefs. Student Elizabeth Levy was selected as the Student of the Year for her leadership in starting an honor-pay program for healthy food choices for students.
Congratulations to everyone, and thank you for all those who voted. These wonderful individuals could not have been properly recognized if not for your time and dedication to vote.
