An Overview

IPSB attracts high-quality people whose goals in bodywork vary widely.  Some people are pursuing professional careers, while others wish to work exclusively with family and friends or want the growth benefits of a body-centered training. In addition, massage practitioners and other health care professionals seek to enhance their professional skills with continuing and advanced education.

IPSB’s holistic health and somatic training programs work together as an integrated educational curriculum.

The Essentials of Massage & Bodywork course provides a foundational level of training for the new practitioner.

The Massage Therapy Certificate Program prepares the student to meet the minimum regulations locally to become a practicing professional.

The Holistic Health Practitioner Certificate Program prepares the student to meet the maximum regulations locally, as well as most regulations across the United States, to become a practicing professional.

The Associate of Science Degree allows students to advance life skills and competence of written and oral communication, math and advanced training in a bodywork specialty.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree provides a broader cultural awareness to sustain support for universal health via intellectual and hands-on applications of massage, bodywork and somatic methods.

The Master of Arts Degree qualifies graduates with a scholarly mastery in Somatics to make original contributions to the field by conducting research, by creating comparative studies of alternative and allopathic medicine, and by completing a written thesis that is of publishable quality.

Specializations provide advanced training in particular bodywork modalities either within one of the above programs or separately.  When all the specified courses for a certain style have been completed, a certificate may be requested showing specialized training.

Beyond the program courses, IPSB offers numerous Electives in holistic bodywork, movement, nutrition, etc.  Some electives are offered in a regular rotation throughout the year to introduce areas of specialty, while others are offered sporadically to give practicing professionals a taste of something new for their clients, and to expand the connection of our students to the opportunities in bodywork not regularly available in the area.

These courses may be taken individually or woven together in a degree program by the student for a complete somatic education. This  choice is based on the student’s personal and professional goals, as well as prior training and experience in the field. In this comprehensive format, students acquire solid professional technical skill and competency in the certificate and Associate degree programs.  They expand their holistic health and somatic learning with academic exposure in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs.

We have designed a versatile curriculum in which the student can achieve sequential learning equivalent, in breadth of knowledge and understanding, to that acquired in any college.  Students can proceed on a part-time or full-time basis.
